Chris P asked:

Im looking to attend college and major in ACCOUNTING. I live in New Jersey and want to stay fairly local. Im shooting for Rutgers, but realize that their busines school is highly competitive, and theres a chance I wont get in and will have then wasted 2 years doing a BS Liberal Arts degree. SO, im starting to look at other NJ colleges for accounting. Seton Hall, Fairleigh, etc….what dyu guys think? Which college is the nicest? Which college offers the best accounting program? Which college offers the best accounting program with the least risk (this eliminates Rutgers due to the risk tht i wont get in rutgers business school) THANKS FOR ANY HELP GUYS!

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. I’m 2 courses into my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Should I continue with the Bachelor’s degree or should I shift gears and go straight for the Master’s of Accounting? My concern is struggling through the Master’s program without enough basic knowledge of Accounting.
Thanks for the help.

Any former accountants who changed careers?

by admin on Feb.17, 2009, under Higher Education (University +)

nicesinging1 asked:

Hello, everyone. I am at a crosspoint in making major decision on whether I want to choose accounting as my career and breadwinner for the rest of my life. I would like to hear from people who used to be an accountant on why they changed their careers. I have few Qs.
1. How was the real world of accounting different than what you learned in textbook and classroom in college?
2. What made u leave the field of accounting and change your career?
3. How do you determine whether you will succeed in accounting or not? Is it mostly based on how well you do in accounting program in college? Is there any other way to anticipate your performance?
Thanks in advance for any insights.

Can my school alter the program I enrolled in?

by admin on May.03, 2008, under Higher Education (University +)

TaxGurl asked:

I am enrolled in a Master’s of Accounting program at a private university. The program is that all Master’s students take the same MBA core classes and then you take your specialization classes—in my case several accounting classes. I want to become a CPA and the state where I live will not accept online classes to qualify for the CPA exam. Prior to enrolling I asked about this. I have several emails from the enrollment counselor assuring me that the accounting classes were on campus, not online. The student handbook states that the MBA/ACC program is available on my campus. BUT now they’re telling me they never teach the specialization classes on campus and I’ll have to take them online! Can they do this to me?? It contradicts everything the enrollment person told me and even contradicts their own student catalog. What do I do??

Or do you have to major in accounting to get into a MAcc? Will the Big 4 hire you if you major in finance and get a Masters in Accounting?

Specifically, Chartered Accountancy.

I know Waterloo has a good program, but that’s about it… I’m looking for a few more choice.

What do you learn in an MBA program that you don’t learn in a bachelors program?

by admin on Feb.15, 2008, under Higher Education (University +)

No name no place asked:

I’ve been looking into an MBA. I have a bachelors in Accounting, and looking at MBA class materials, 80% of it looks very similar. That seems like such a waste of time and money to get 6-9 units of new learning in. Why are companies willing to pay more for it?
