This is my first semester at a technical school, and i’m enrolled in the accounting program. All through high school I liked math..liked my accounting classes..and now i’m taking Accounting 1 in college. I’m overwhelmed with work..and starting to re-think if accounting is what I want to do. If anyone has had this feeling..an accountant..can anyone please help me out..give me some advice as to they think I should do?

Accounting is a hard major, and a semi hard job, but they do get paid well, its not all math either. If you think you can stick it out I would it is a job that really pays off.

Accountants are always in need and a good tax accountant who specializes in state and local taxes can make very good money.

I have my major in accounting and have been officially in the field for 2 1/2 years. My mom had her own CPA business and have been doing the work for about 8years now. I would say stick with it if you enjoy. They try to make Accounting 1 and 2 hard to weed out those that really want to pursue the major. Just as it is with almost any major you want.
You will always have a lot of work, but it gets easier after Intermediate Accounting. I say keep on going with the major and if you want to reconsider doing something else just take one or two courses in the other major at the same time. That way if you decide to change your mind next year after taking more accounting courses then you have already done some of the intro classes for the other major you are interested in.
Good luck!
PS- With accounting you always have a job!!! Trust me on that one! It pays well too.

I am a certified public accountant, and when I was college I also had a hard time like you’re having right now. Don’t give up. Accounting usually deals with loads of numbers and work but you’ll get used to it.
